This is found to be sitting on overhead railway tracks near Kolaghat Railway station, Midnapore (East), West Bengal. These birds are rarely seen nowadays in this area. Usually they are spotted around vast green field or grass lands, in the rural areas.
A pair of this bird is set free traditionally at SOVABAZAR RAJBARI just before Goddess Durga starts Her journey for immersion. It is believed that they will go to MT.KAILASH, and inform Lord Shiva, husband of the Goddess, about Her homecoming.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Mythological idea! Lovely tradition!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this.
Why is it called Nilkantha? Is there a shade of blue on its neck?
ReplyDeleteThe lovely blue colour is actually seen when the bird spreads its wings. However, I am not sure about the name.
